Some things about Obama's speech that interested me are when he said that he was two different nationalities and people within his own family were different nationalities. That statement made me feel that if there were so many different nationalities in his family he must not be racist because if he was he probably would not get along with his family. Obama also says how in order for America to overcome racism we all need to join together. We can't do this by our selves we need to accept the differences between one another because we can't change who we are. The faster we complete these actions the faster we can stop racism and all work together to solve other problems in the world. I like how he mentioned different famous documents in his speech. He mentions the Emancipation Proclamation which was made to end slavery, therefore creating all men equal. He also mentioned the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal. Ever since the early 1800's and still up to this point in time, people have thought themselves more superior to other races, especially the whites and the blacks. White people thought that they could take control of the black people and purchased them as slaves and thought that no black person was an actual person, just property. America has come a long way since then, now people have less hatred towards other races but still some people are very violent and over react. I liked how Obama talked about the Brown vs. Board of Education case. It showed how if we fight for something that we really want we can achieve our goals. If America fights together to overcome racism we can end many problems and a lot of violence. I believe that every one should do as they want but in the end we should all get along because together we can change generations to come.
